How a child autism assessment works

  1. ScreeningA free screening can provide valuable clarity and insight. If results point toward autism, a full diagnostic assessment is recommended.
  2. Gathering InsightSchool input, or equivalent professional insight where needed, helps the team understand the child’s presentation across settings.
  3. AssessmentA multidisciplinary team may include paediatric, psychiatric, psychology, speech and language, or occupational therapy input, alongside recognised tools such as ADOS-2.
  4. Diagnostic ReportFamilies receive a detailed report that clearly explains findings and can support conversations with schools and services.
  5. Ongoing SupportFollowing assessment, the team can guide families through suitable support options and next steps.

Understanding child autism

Valuing Neurodiversity

Every child is unique

Some children are neurodivergent, meaning their brain processes and experiences differ from neurotypical children.

Why recognition matters

When differences are not recognised or supported, they can lead to real challenges. A thoughtful assessment can help unlock the right support.

You may be experiencing…

Sensory sensitivities, social isolation, disconnection from the family, or deep interests.
